This video accompanies the Guitar Chords Chart for Beginners below, to show you how to actually finger the chords and how it should sound. It is a really helpful for beginners.
The video teaches you the basic guitar chords: A, C, E, D, G, A minor, E minor
These are called “open chords” because they are a combination of open strings and notes that you press down on the fretboard with your fingers.
There are the simplest chords for a guitar player to learn. MEMORISE THEM!
Here is a guitar chords chart for beginners for you to visualise:
Just knowing these chords you can play tons and tons of songs.
Virtually all folk songs are played with these chords. Most guitar oriented pop songs, too.
For example, for you hard rockers, “Back in Black” by AC/DC is E, D, and A over and over again for most of the song (with a little riff that you can skip if you are just starting out). “You Shook Me All Night Long” is played using G, C, D basically.
The main skill to practice is changing from chord to chord without losing the beat. This is EXTREMELY important, and you need to keep practicing that.
Strumming styles are also important to learn, but you’ll get that as you go along.
